Westrick Real Estate

The block chosen for the Real Estate One Westrick Real Estate building is a traditional house block with a few tweaks from the owner of the real estate company, Wynne Westrick Achatz.  This was an easy choice for their block due to the nature of their business of selling homes.  The colors used are some of the colors of the company logo.

Westrick Real Estate was established in 1889. It was founded by Charles A. Westrick. Charles declared, “Our clients’ interest must come first. Upon our ability to satisfy them rests our ability to succeed.” At that time the office was located on the St. Clair River on S. Water Street at the end of Broadway Street  in Marine City, MI.

By 1920, Elzer Westrick, Charles Westrick’s son, joined the real estate office. In the 1940’s, the inner vault of the office was robbed by thugs who jimmied the vault and escaped, by speed boat with $13,000 in cash and securities.

In 1960, Marine City officials proposed a waterfront parking lot and park. They wanted to use the property where the family’s building supply and Westrick Real Estate Office was located. Officials proposed, making a barter trade to re-establish the office at 505 West Blvd, Marine City. A building was erected, and the local Edison Company offered to install all electric components making this the first test building to have full electric service.  It remains the same to this day.

Gordon Westrick, son of Elzear Westrick, joined the realty office in 1935 and his 3 sons joined the firm in the early 70’s. Gordon’s daughter, Wynne (Westrick) Achatz, followed the family tradition of servicing this community in 1978. Her brothers then moved to other walks of life, Mortgage Lending for Gary, Navy Career for Michael and sadly James passed in 1988 from a car accident. Wynne continued to work with her father in the business until he passed at 87 years old in 2003. This left Wynne as the valued owner to carry on the Legacy of the 3 generations before her.. . to carry on the business as her great grandfather, grandfather, and father: , “Our clients’ interest must come first. Upon our ability to satisfy them rests our ability to succeed.” Wynne’s personal model is “Always here for you.”
