St. Clair Flats Historical Society
The Harsens Island Saint Clair Flats Historical Society’s block is a variation of the Birds in the Air quilt square, representing all the water fowl around the island. The teal blue colors are for the water surrounding the land and the slight color variations from light to dark depict a wave rolling toward the shore. A large-mouth bass silhouette is featured prominently on this beautiful block as the island is a fisherman’s haven. The block was painted by Liz’s Barn Quilts
The Harsens Island St. Clair Flats Historical Society is located in the original firehall building built in 1938. The building housed an antique shop prior to the Historical Society acquiring the building around 2013. The Clayton Evans room was added in 2021 through a donation of $100,000 to the historical society upon his death.
The Harsens Island St. Clair Flats Historical Society’s mission is to collect, protect, preserve , and share with the public, the unique historical artifacts and information that represents the diverse cultural composition of the people who have occupied the area of the St. Clair River Delta that is Harsens Island and St. Clair Flats.
