Historical Commission of East China- Red Brick Museum

There were three school districts in the China Township area prior to the time Michigan became a state. The Red Brick School was in district #2. It was built on a land grant from Andrew Westbrook.

Records indicate the original school building, on this site, dates back to 1823 and records indicate it to have been in use as far back as 1859. The building that stands there now, known as the Red Brick School was built in 1872 and was used as a school until 1954.

It is currently a museum restored by the Historical Commission of East China. They hold an Open House the 2^nd Saturday of the month, June -October from 11 am to 3 pm to tour the school It is a fascinating exhibit.
